Customer Reviews
Great idea, poor implementation
I lost endnote x2 when I sold my old laptop.
Got this version at student price from campus store. It does not integrate at all into pages 09 nor MS Word 2008 for mac. For some reason the x3 version only lets one set bibliography or footnotes to 3 styles within pages or word. Yes, within endnote x3 itself, it has the turabian bibliography and chicago style, but the insert and edit menu options within the mac word processor applications do not recognize any but the default 3. Myself using turabian/chicago manual, this just will not cut it. Best one can do with this software is copy paste at which point it becomes useless. Unfortunately other mac users, pages 09 specifically, have same issues with the new version and none of us are willing to buy the old x2 version to revert anything. We are students, money is tight. I have messed around with getting this to work appx. 4 hours and in that time I probably could have handwritten all the citations out and made my own copy paste application. I would hold off buying this until apple addresses the problem, or at least until Microsoft fixes the integration in the 2008 for mac office suite.
A Godsend for anyone that has to do scholarly writing!!
Endnote X3 for Mac is great! I installed in on Snow Leopard and use Microsoft Word 2008. Cite and write works great and the ability to sync up with the online version of Endnotes is very helpful.
I am currently working on my PhD at NCU and am using Endnotes daily - highly recommend it!
Works beautifully with iWork '09 (Pages)
I'll make this short and sweet....
If you use Pages '09 and do any sort of academic writing, this is the best citation tool. I was using RefWorks but it's almost exclusively tied to Word '08 (Cite While You Write, for example) and requires you to have Internet access. Endnote doesn't require you to have Internet access and isn't as "cryptic" as Refworks is. Refworks is free for most college students through their University (check w/ your school library) but is not nearly as user-friendly as Endnote. Endnote also has EndNote Web which is free to use for Endnote users....
I'm a history major so having proper citations is crucial for me. The MLA formatting is perfect, and I esp. love the ability to tie into my university library catalog. I find the book I'm citing in the library database(s) and it handles all the field inputs for me automatically. I don't have to spend my time typing out my Bibliography or Works Cited, either....Endnote does it automatically in real-time as you are writing at the end of your Pages document.
If you use a Mac, and you use Pages '09 (preferred) or Word '08, this will not let you down. 5/5 stars! I've written probably three dozen papers since I bought this app...and it hasn't failed me yet.
